Dear Clients,
Importance – |
High for Fremantle and Adelaide clients |
  |
Normal for all east coast clients. |
The freight market remains very fluid with vessel berthing and congestion in Singapore causing significant impact to Australia bound cargo and global cargo.
Overnight MSC has cancelled all bookings via Singapore into Fremantle and Adelaide. This is due to a significant backlog of containers sitting in Singapore for 5-6 weeks roughly.
If containers had not been picked up at origin ports as of yesterday, MSC simply cancelled the bookings without forewarning.
This is going to put pressure on the remaining shipping lines as MSC were number 1 or 2 for volume into Fremantle and Adelaide.
Good news is that COSCO on TUE announced they would start accepting bookings for Fremantle and Adelaide, having stopped bookings back in late MAY due to congestion in Singapore.
Increases to freight rates looked to be easing earlier in the week, but with the above conditions it seems that further increases in JULY could eventuate.
We have found several clients taking up options to ship containers via SYDNEY into Adelaide or Fremantle to avoid Singapore. The cost to do so on freight rates is aprpox USD2000 higher and only a limited number of ports in CHINA offering this service.
If you haven’t already planned your NOV / DEC orders, we highly encourage you to, as delays are unavoidable.
So the earlier you ship, the earlier you will receive your cargo.
NOTE – Not one shipping line is currently advising that they don’t have delays. It's ranging from 2-6 weeks with most carriers, where space is available to book.
If you wish to discuss any of these key points and how they may impact your business, please don’t hesitate to call our office or speak to our key personal.
