Dear Clients,

DP WORLD FREMANTLE has introduced its “WEIGH IN MOTION” (WIM) technology and infrastructure to Fremantle Port.

In late receiving news, it’s been reported that it was in a trial stage throughout JULY and has now “LIVE” from today MON 29th JULY,

WIM is where the terminal checks and weighs the weight distribution over the axels off the trailer (truck) to ensure that DP WORLD is meeting “chain of responsibility” measures.

Should the weight on an axle exceed the limit, then the truck must return to the yard and follow the rules and find a suitable truck to move the container with the correct weights on the axle.

This technology is already in play on the east coast of Australia. And unfortunately like all tasks completed by the wharf, they charge for it. The true cost is $14.80 to truckers, but I have seen some truckers charge between $20 – 30 per container for the WEIGH IN MOTION FEE (WIM FEE).

Transways unfortunately, will have to pass these costs onto the importer / exporter as part of your trucking fee moving forward.

You can read more about the WIM FEE here at the Container Transport Alliance Australia website - https://mailchi.mp/aeae8927383b/dp-world-fremantle-terminal-weight-in-motion-system

Should you wish to discuss this fee any further, please feel free to reach out to your key contact at Transways Logistics International.
