Dear Clients,
After the recent announcements in the market of MSC ceasing services into various ports in Australia, they have now announced a major overhaul of their Australian services.
As one of the top 3 carriers into Australia, MSC services have a large impact on the market. Please read over the below key points of the revised services.
-
Europe cargo – Will be shipped on MSC direct service only into Australia, no cargo will be moved via Singapore.
-
CHINA -> East Coast Australia. MSC will operate the PANDA service with a focus on East Coast Cargo into Sydney / Melbourne and Brisbane. Nothing has changed on this service, its port rotation is
BUSAN – QINGDAO – SHANGHAI – NINGBO – NANSHA – HONG KONG – YANTIAN – BRISBANE – MELBOURNE – SYDNEY.
-
The “NEW WALLABY” service will focus on cargo into Fremantle, Adelaide and New Zealand. This replaces the Capricorn Service. With Fremantle and Adelaide cargo being Transhipped in SYDNEY. Read more about this below in point 4.
The port rotation is
HONG KONG : YANTIAN : XIAMEN : SHANGHAI : NINGBO : SYDNEY : MELBOURNE : AUCKLAND : BLUFF : LYTTELTON : WELLINGTON : NAPIER : TAURANGA : MELBOURNE : BRISBANE : HONG KONG
The first sailing is on MON 19th AUG – vsl name – MSC TANIA voyage KN434A
MSC will take some Sydney and Melbourne cargo, but majority of space will be focused on Fremantle / Adelaide and New Zealand we are informed.
-
FREMANTLE and ADELAIDE “Capricorn” Service. This service has been suspended as many are aware. MSC has officially announced the last sailing will depart Singapore on 20th AUG 2024 – vsl name – MSC Manu voyage FC434A
They will review the “Capricorn” service later and determine if they re-introduce it, for now MSC are promoting a service into FREMANTLE and ADELAIDE via Sydney, where cargo will depart China, travel into SYDNEY and then connect onto what they call the “Australia Express Service”.
The Australia Express service calls Sydney after originating in Europe, where it will then pick up FREMANTLE and ADELAIDE transhipment cargo, on the return swing into Europe. This may have some benefit as it avoids Singapore. Transit times are unknown currently.
Fremantle and Adelaide importers can expect to fight for space with Sydney and Melbourne importers who are paying higher freight prices currently ex CHINA.
Please also keep in mind that the size of the ships MSC are deploying on the “NEW WALLABY” service are small. Updated and unconfirmed reports are that they may be as small as 3000 – 4000 TEU only. Whilst the Panda service has also seen a reduction in size down from 6500 TEU to 4000 – 4500 TEU per vessel.
This will have a direct impact on the available space in the market.
