Dear Clients,
RED SEA CEASEFIRE & DEVELOPMENTS JAN-25
With the news recently of the ceasefire agreement ratified on 19 January between Israel and Hamas we are starting to see some positive flow on developments in the world of international shipping. The Yemeni Houthi rebels have announced a phased cessation of hostilities against non-Israeli-linked shipping in the Red Sea.
The Houthis have lifted their yearlong blockade on Red Sea shipping for vessels not wholly owned by Israeli entities. However, Israeli-flagged or fully Israeli-owned ships remain prohibited from transiting the region however the group has warned that hostilities could resume if military actions by the US, UK, or Israel target Yemen.
Industry analysis suggests that carriers may begin resuming Red Sea transits in a gradual manner, starting with select vessels as confidence in the region’s stability improves. Initial movements by smaller or mid-sized ships could precede the reintroduction of larger vessels as part of a phased approach. Carriers have been quick to point out that global shipping operations and schedules are very complex and most carriers set (at the very least) quarter 1 2025 schedules late last year on the basis the Red Sea would remain off limits to international shipping.
We will issue a further updates as information comes to hand specifically as it relates to shipping to/from Australia.
Should you wish to discuss any of these points, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your key contact @ Transways Logistics International.
