Dear Clients, They say a week is a long time in politics. If that’s the case, it can be an eternity in International Shipping. Despite global rates reducing and volumes cooling, post Chinese New Year as per our notice yesterday, some shipping lines are advertising a General Rate Increase effective 1st March. Whilst the quantum is lower than we saw from repeated GRI’s at the back end of 2024, this announcement gives the market an indication of what the shipping lines see as forward volumes being booked ex China main ports or potentially the shipping lines are looking to extend the blank sailing program to artificially decrease the supply of container space thereby enabling this GRI. We will continue to monitor the market and advise updates as the market changes and keep you updated.
