Dear Clients, EASTER & ANZDAC DAY LONG WEEKENDS LONG WEEKEND SURCHARGES – BILLED BY TRUCKING COMPANIES. We are fast approaching the Easter Long weekend, which is then followed by ANZAC Day long weekend. This is going to place truckers around the country under pressure, with back to back short weeks, along with drivers taking leave, to maximise the public holidays. To manage this, most trucking companies around Australia are now billing a “LONG WEEKEND SURCHARGE” to recover overtime wages paid to drivers, otherwise they simply don’t have drivers turn up for their shifts on the Public Holiday. The amounts typically range from $200 - $400 per container depending on the carrier. Should Transways be picking up your containers over the long weekend, please do expect to see a Long Weekend Surcharge. Where possible, we do our best to work with Transport provider’s to avoid this surcharge however due to the scheduling of “BULK RUNS” being pushed onto truckers, it can at times be unavoidable should we wish to avoid wharf storage and not chew into container free days (container detention). At this time, we would also like to encourage you to obtain and send in your customs paperwork well in advance of ETA’S over this period. The more notice we have of your shipment arriving the better the outcome will likely be.
